- The Great Lakes Intertribal Council , with funding from the U.S. Administration on Aging, conducted a public awareness and education campaign in the mid 1980s, which focused on acknowledging elders. Children learned about their grandparents' needs and made posters to honor them. A senior recognition event was held. In addition, abuse awareness activities were conducted in detention centers, and a variety of outreach materials were produced, including an outreach guide, which is available from the Clearinghouse on Abuse and Neglect of the Elderly (CANE) (File number E2657-25).
