Planning for the Response

Before going public, make sure you are ready to handle the response your campaign generates.
What to Expect: Possible Responses
Requests for more information
  • Develop written materials.
  • Create a web site.
  • Start a “call center.”
Requests for presentations to concerned groups
  • Develop a speaker's bureau.
  • Create an outline and handouts for speakers.
Increased referrals or reports
  • Contact agencies that may be affected and inform them of dates of major activities and events.
  • Ask for their help in monitoring impact. This may involve keeping track of calls received.
New volunteers
  • Develop a system for maintaining contact with, training and orienting new volunteers.
Requests for media interviews or to testify at hearings
  • Decide in advance who will be spokespersons. Select several people who are knowledgeable about various aspects of abuse and who have credibility with target groups.

More Tips

  • Monitor the impact of your campaign. Keep track of changes in referral rates, media placements, requests for additional information, “hits” to your web site, new partnerships and requests for speakers.
  • Make it easy to get additional information.
  • Maintain databases of interested people and organizations so that you can contact them in the future.
