Training

In 2007, the National Adult Protective Services Association (NAPSA) was awarded a three year cooperative agreement to carry out training related activities for the NCEA.

The goal of this project is to improve elder abuse training available to professionals in five targeted fields: criminal justice, health care, victim services (including APS), aging services, and financial services.  NAPSA plans to achieve this goal through the following major activities:

  • Conducting a national level needs assessment to identify both the elder abuse training needs of, and the currently available elder abuse training for, professionals in the five targeted fields;
  • Developing a long-term training strategic plan for the NCEA to efficiently and effectively target training efforts;
  • Maintaining, operating, and expanding a national lending library of elder abuse and APS training materials;
  • Conducting four annual, national training or informational webcasts; and
  • Providing a daily summary to the elder abuse listserve of news articles related to the field of elder abuse, neglect, and exploitation.
