Elder Justice: Community Collaborations

NCEA has awarded grant funding to the National Committee for the Prevention of Elder Abuse (NCPEA) to conduct a 3-year, Elder Justice Community Collaborations project. The project supports the development of multidisciplinary coalitions at the local level by providing on-site training and technical assistance to Area Agencies on Aging, Title VI Grantees, and/or community organizations initiating new elder abuse prevention coalitions. This webcast features an overview of the training and development process, and identifies key elements of successful collaborations building. The presentation is moderated by Dr. Pamela Teaster, Professor at the University of Kentucky and President of NCPEA, a partner in the NCEA. The featured presenter is Mary Lynn Kasunic, the coordinator of the NCEA elder justice community collaborations project. Media Moxie: Informing the Public About Elder Abuse

This webcast is designed to help APS practitioners, elder abuse advocates, aging services providers, and other professionals learn the best strategies for recruiting the media in order to raise public awareness of elder abuse. The presentation focuses on telling the story of elder abuse to people in the media, talking to the media, and dealing with the opportunities and challenges of today’s many media outlets. A Primer on Evaluating Field Programs and Projects

This webcast presents an introduction to outcomes-based program evaluation, including: program design incorporating outcomes measures; planning an evaluation strategy; writing outcomes-based objectives; and developing simple measurement methods. The webcast features Karen Stein, Ph.D., Director of the Clearinghouse on Abuse and Neglect of the Elderly (CANE, an NCEA grantee), Associate Professor at the University of Delaware, Faculty Director of the Office of Educational Assessment, and author of "A Primer on Outcomes-Based Evaluation for Elder Abuse Projects, Programs, and Training."

In an effort to promote promising and evidence-based practices in elder abuse prevention and intervention, Dr. Pamela Teaster of the National Committee for the Prevention of Elder Abuse (NCEA grantee) moderated a discussion of two outstanding evidence-based programs: the Mobile Gerontological Psychiatric Crisis Intervention Services of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, featuring Richard McKagan; and the Elder Financial Protection Network, based in San Francisco, California, featuring Jenefer Duane.
